Sri Lanka falls to Favorites India

5 September 2018

Sri Lanka falls to pre-tournament favorites India in the SAFF Suzuki Cup Group B's opening match.

The giants of the region beat Sri Lanka 2-0. Sumit Passi's through ball found Ashique Kuruniyan in the box who scored in the 35th minute for India. India's second goal came early in the second half. Lallianzuela Changte blasted the ball home from tight angle to double India's lead.

Sri Lanka will play Maldives on the 7th. Sri Lanka now must beat Maldives and hope that Maldives lose again to India to progress. If Sri Lanka draws with Maldives, Maldives has to lose to India with a bigger score line in order for Sri Lanka to progress. India on the other hand need a draw from the last game to make it into the semi finals
